the view

Sunday night was a
great opening night for "The Other Side", an exhibit
of works by contributors of the Egypt Almanac, including cairolive.com's
Tarek Atia, who is showing The Meeting Place, a continuous slide reel of
digital photography taken for cairolive.com from 2000-2003.
The opening at the
Mashrabiya Gallery downtown was packed with glitterati from the worlds
of art and media, who were enjoying the veritable cornucopia of images
on display.

Visitors to the
opening were intrigued by the computer screen that was amongst the
framed photos on the wall. The reel of images showing on the screen
captured their attention -- its sheer variety and the novelty of the
display idea surely playing a part. Many stuck around for a while
to see as many images as they could. "How many photos are in
there?" people were heard to ask. "How long does this thing go
on?" It didn't matter. You could always explore the rest of
the gallery, then check back at "The Meeting Place" for more.
