Over eid weekend, the coastal
city's ability to stay clean was tested in a most rigorous
Every day and every night over
the long weekend, the crowds thronged to the Corniche and Ramleh square,
strolling, playing, eating, shouting, laughing...
The carnival came and went, and
consistently, by morning, the streets would be clean again.
The city has contracted its
garbage collection to a French multinational called Onyx. It's hard to
miss the many Onyx trucks hustling up and down the highway that takes
you into the city, and along the city's streets themselves. And, as the
picture below shows, there's also a little reminder as you leave the
Greek-temple style gates of the toll road on the way back to Cairo.
