University students have been culminating their semester and year over the past few weeks with final exams, and can now breathe a sigh of relief -- at least until the exam results appear later on in the summer. Most other students -- of all ages -- around the country have also finished finals, and are planning their summer. The only ones with studying left are the unlucky second and third secondary students, who are in the heart of the Thanwiiya amma final secondary school exams. Those taking their second round of thanawiyya amma are especially anxious, since their results will determine which university they'll be allowed to attend. The results will be announced on July 12.

Shaabola taken to test
Shaaban Abdel-Rehim has made it to the pop quizzes. In addition to all his movie and theater roles, Shaaban now stars in a high school French test. An item on the front page of Al-Akhbar claims that the title of the first question in this month's French exams at the Imbaba Secondary Military School was "Shaabola alab dimagh al-masriyeen", literally, Shaabola turned Egyptians' heads upside down. The question was all about Shaaban's rise from ironing man to shaabi pop sensation. The item does not mention the question, but maybe it was along the lines of:
Shaaban is everywhere -- wearing his trademark flowered shirt, singing his crazy lyrics. The question is: Are people getting sick of him, or is this just the beginning?

Med school requires 98.5%!
High school graduates have been busy over the past few days finding out which college they will be attending this year. The placement office has announced that far higher thanawiyya amma scores are required for entry into the top faculties: to get into medical school you have to have scored 98.5% or more on the test, and for engineering the required score is 92.5 per cent.
